Ask anyone who’s rescued a dog and they’ll tell you they make the best pets in the world. After all, they’ve been taken from their home and put into a shelter with unknown people, sights, and smells. For them, it’s a terrifying experience.
Well, one family found out just how amazing a rescue dog is. What their new pup did goes beyond the wildest imagination. Now, he’s not a pet but another member of the family.
His name is Haus
While searching for a dog to adopt from Heidi’s Legacy Rescue, Molly DeLuca, an adorable seven-year-old girl, spotted one that she thought was perfect. Seeing that he was sweet and friendly, her mom agreed … so they took him home. But they would soon learn that he was a lot more.
An ordinary day
What started much like any other day would turn into something the DeLuca family couldn’t have imagine. On that particular day, Molly was playing in the yard. And as usual, her new best friend, Haus, was right there by her side.
In the blink of an eye
That’s how fast it took for the life of this two-year-old German Shepherd to be put in danger. You see, as he and the little girl played, a small creature wasn’t too far away. Then, it struck … Haus was bitten by a rattlesnake.
Struggling to survive
Immediately after realizing what happened, Adam, Molly’s father, rushed Haus to BluePearl Veterinarian Partners where they lived in Tampa, Florida. After inspecting the pup, the vet determined that he was in serious condition.
Standing by his side
Throughout his stay at the veterinarian clinic, Adam took Molly to see Haus often. After all, this sweet dog literally put his life on the line to save his favorite human. Although he still wasn’t out of the woods, he was always happy to see the people he loved
An expensive ordeal
For Haus to make a full recovery, he required a lot of veterinarian care and as you can imagine, that meant it was going to cost a significant amount of money to save this pup’s life. But as a hero, he deserved the help. So, the family started a fundraiser and in no time, it reached more than $52,000.
On the mend
Thanks to receiving excellent medical care, Haus began to improve. Donya, Molly’s grandmother who was with her the day this dog was bitten by the rattlesnake, had this to say. “I would almost say it seems miraculous, based on the turnaround we had from last week … we’re just really, really happy.”
He saved Molly’s life
Donya went on to say, “It’s easy for anyone who’s spent any time with Haus and our children that he absolutely nannies our children and watches out for them. It’s common for him to sweep the yard or check everything out when he goes out. He stood his ground and continued to charge when a large, venomous snake was attacking him.”
Finally going home
After quite some time at the veterinarian clinic, Haus was released to go home. For some time, no one even knew if he’d survive. Once again, he and Molly shared the back seat during the ride.
The right choice
On the day that Molly and her family decided to adopt Haus, they had no idea just how important he would become to them. Although this little girl was traumatized by the experience, she knows her dog saved her life. The two of them already had a special bond but now, it’s even stronger.
