In an episode of Mutual Rescue by The Ellen Show, Tracy shared her remarkable story about herself and her newly-adopted dog, Jack.

Tracy had an accident when she was horseriding and took a very nasty fall. When she fell down the on the ground, she realized she suddenly couldn’t feel her legs anymore. She shattered her pelvis on both sides and broke her sacrum as well. Because of her injuries, she was confined to a wheelchair for months.

“It was really humbling,” she said. “I had to completely learn how to walk again. Before the accident, my husband and I had a plan to get a house and get a dog, and hopefully, start a family. Everything basically got put on hold. I felt like the world was literally passing by as I looked through the window.

She realized life is too short to wait, and they wanted to get a dog right away. She wanted to adopt a dog that nobody else wanted. Tracy and her husband went to a local animal shelter and met Jack. They instantly fell in love with him.

Tracy emotionally recalls how they met. She saw that Jack had three legs and only one eye. He had been in a terrible car accident, but a bystander rushed him to a veterinarian and his life could be saved. “This is our dog.”, she emotionally said to her husband.

Because Jack had to go out for a walk every day, Tracy had a reason and a motivation to go outside. Each and every day, Tracy could walk a little bit further and a little bit faster. Jack also made huge improvements, as it isn’t easy at all to keep up for a dog with just three legs.

Jack is an extremely happy dog and takes a very large interest in people. After a couple of weeks, the two were even able to start running again.

At first, Tracy thought she was rescuing Jack, but she quickly realized that it actually was the other way around. She has rehabilitated well and no longer needs a wheelchair or other support to walk normally again. As for Jack, he always keeps smiling and the two couldn’t be happier with each other.
