There are millions of books about what to expect as a first-time mom and how to cope that first year, but the truth is that nothing you read can prepare you for motherhood. And nothing you read can prepare you for all of the emotions that come with it. From intense love and joy, to equally as intense frustration and confusion, motherhood is just one of those things in life where you just have to roll with the punches.
These 16 animals’ expressions perfectly sum up what it means to be a mom, and demonstrate quite clearly how much of a rollercoaster ride motherhood can be!
1. Just Let Me Sleep.
As a new mom, you’ll take sleep when you can–even if that means sleeping while feeding!
Cheers to you moms out there, for being excellent multitaskers!
2. Is This Is My Life Now?
Accept it – you have become a slave to all of your children’s wants, needs, and everything in between. Yes, this is your life right now, but the good news is, it only lasts for 18 years.
3. But I Wouldn’t Trade It For Anything.
For all the complaining that we as moms do, we know the truth, and that is that we wouldn’t trade a single second for anything in the world.
4. That Moment When Realization Strikes.
There comes a moment, as a new mom, when realization strikes and you wonder what the heck you just got yourself into.
5. I Am Now a Jungle Gym.
Yes, yes you are. Being a mom means lying prone while your kids pull at you, climb on you, and really just treat you as a play structure.
The good news? You’ll have rock solid abs from all the jumping they’ll do on your stomach.
6. There Is No Other Bond Like It.
When your baby looks at you like you’re the only person in the world that matters, it makes all the hard mommy-moments fade away.
7. What’s Personal Space?
Your kids are going to want to be with you all. The. Time. Wherever you go. As a mom, you no longer have personal space…
8. …Not Even In Bed.
Even if you said that you’re never going to be “that mom” that lets her kids sleep in bed, trust me, you’ll cave.
9. I Think I’ve Become a Bed.
Not only will your kids want to share your bed with you, but they’ll make you a bed. When they’re infants, it’s the most precious thing in the world. When they’re toddlers? Not so much.
10. Oh, The Joys Of Breastfeeding.
It will happen to you: someone will walk in on you when you’re feeding your baby, and you will be embarrassed. Don’t be – it happens to all of us moms. Plus, they should have knocked.
11. WHEREVER I Go.
Remember how I said they’re going to want to be with you wherever you go?
12. I’ll Never Quite Get Used To This.
You think you finally have a handle on this all of mom stuff and then BOOM, they do something else to surprise you. Like climb on your head.
13. We’ve Learned New Tricks.
By “tricks” I mean ways to not disturb the peace when they are being good. Like not moving a muscle.
14. I’ll Take Sleep Where I Can Get It.
On the living room floor? Why not? In the bathroom? Sure. When you’re a mom, you can’t be too picky.
15. I Surender.
There’s no going back once you become a mom, so the best thing you can do for your emotional health is to just accept it.
16. People Tell Me It Will Get Easier.
It will, I promise you. And at the end of each day, when the only person they want to be with is you, it will make you forget about all the hardships you endured that day, and motivate you to get through the next.
Motherhood is HARD, and don’t let anybody else tell you differently. But honestly, it’s also the best thing in the world. To all you already-moms out there: you rock, and thank you for all that you do!
To all you soon-to-be-moms: you’ve got this ;)
