A baby parrot that lost its mother was being fed by its human handler until the most incredible thing happened.
The father of the baby bird stepped in and began feeding his son himself, which is something male birds usually don’t do. But in the absence of the mother bird, he became the parent the baby bird needed, which reminds us of all that parents do in order to take care of their children’s needs.
These birds are sun conures, and they usually imprint on the parent birds if they are raised by them.
All was going perfectly well for this particular family at Bird Recovery International until the mother bird died of a chest injury. Since the baby bird now had no one to feed him, the handler, Chris Biro, started to do so himself.
Over time, Biro noticed that the father of the baby bird was watching him feed his little one and even “hanging out outside the window by the cage.”
Biro told ViralHog that he had been hand-feeding the baby bird, which is a difficult task for a human, especially since birds themselves are basically designed to do it. So, once he saw the father bird was interested in the baby, Biro let the older bird into the cage in order to interact with him. Eventually, the father bird began feeding his baby himself.
At first, it wasn’t easy, just like when a parent tries to get a child to eat their vegetables.
But as time went on, the father bird became better and better at feeding his child. He even started to do it all the time, to the point where Biro didn’t have to feed the baby bird himself at all. Biro also began capturing the feeding fests on video and managed to get a great 45-second clip of the father parrot feeding his son.
The father bird takes food into his mouth and pecks at the baby bird’s beak until he opens it.
He then stuffs the food into the baby bird’s mouth, all while the baby bird chirps loudly back at him. Biro even captured this video while both birds were standing on his hand!
At times, the baby bird makes it difficult for the father bird to get the food into his mouth.
However, the father bird stays patient and hops around Biro’s hand in order to find the best route. He then tries again, and over the course of the video, manages to stuff quite a lot of sustenance into the baby’s mouth.
According to Stuff4Petz.com, mothers of baby sun conures will usually feed them for as long as 8 weeks after they are born, which is why it was so crucial that the baby find someone to feed him.
Without help, he wouldn’t have been able to survive.
Of course, Biro’s help was stellar and could have kept the parrot chick from dying, but there is no substitute for the loving care of a parent, no matter their gender.
That is why this story has become so touching for so many people who have heard it. It’s always truly exciting to see a single parent step up and save the day for their child.
