Most animals are great at handling parenthood. They take good care of their newborns, and they even fight their natural predators to protect their offspring. That is why it will never be a good idea to pick up a defenseless chick in the presence of the hen.
However, some let humans pick up or pet their babies freely. Perhaps one of the reasons why that happens is because of the trusting bond that they developed with humans. Although that is not true in this particular video – the video of a cow asking a human for help.
A man passed by a farm to take photos and found a restless cow.
On a peaceful farm situated in Millbrook, Ontario, you could find a herd of cows frolicking in the green meadows. There is also a wide pond for them to quench their thirst and cool their warm bodies under the heat of the sun. It is a cow’s paradise.
However, there is one cow, named Flo, who seemed to be troubled. She was staying near the fence for some time until a passerby, Dave, noticed the peculiar situation as he stopped by the farm to film the picture-perfect scene of the cows on the pond. The cow also took notice of the man, and she looked directly at him as she scratched the ground.
Flo was trying to send a message to Dave but it took him some time to get it.
The cow paced restlessly near the man, scraped at the ground, and mooed at him. She was doing everything she could to grab his attention. The cow continued staring back and forth at the man and the fence behind her, but Dave did not respond. This went on for about five minutes until the other cows started to assemble around Flo. Then finally, Dave realized that the cow was trying to call him.
As Dave responded to Flo’s call, another realization hit him when he saw a newborn calf stuck on the other side of the fence — it actually was Flo’s cry for help. The calf still has its umbilical cord attached and looked dry. It was a matter of urgency and Dave’s decision regarding this situation is crucial.
Dave decided to help the calf reunite with its mother but was afraid that Flo might hurt him if he touched her calf.
He was sure that the fence was not enough to hold a mother’s rampage. But, it was not what Dave expected. Flo behaved well as the man slowly got her calf over the fence. The fence was powered with electricity but it was at the lowest setting.
Even if it shocked them both in the process, it was not enough to properly hurt them. Flo finally had her calf back well and safe.
Flo and her calf remembered their rescuer when Dave visited their farm.
Dave went inside the farm and met the farmers who were managing it. He also got to meet Flo and her calf once again. What he did not expect was them approaching him calmly as if they remembered him and what he did. It was truly a heartwarming scene.
Flo showed us a perfect display of emotions and even communicated with a stranger to ask for help. Thankfully, Dave was a human who responded kindly to the situation.
