A mother monkey had a vastly different reaction to the humans who took her baby on the day that the baby was finally returned to her.
As she embraced her baby who had been gone for a few weeks, she seemed to look up at rescuers and say thank you.
But she was pretty hostile towards them during their first encounter. A student of Kingsway High School in Amanzimtoti, South Africa is the one who spotted her baby vervet monkey, according to FaithTap.
He noticed that the monkey was limping around and seemed to be in pain and injured. He reached out to the Umsizi Vervet Rescue Centre for help and their team spent hours trying to catch the little money so they could help him.
Eventually, they did. But his family was none too pleased. They were pretty angry and thought that the humans were trying to harm their child.
And who can blame them, humans don’t have the best track record when it comes to their treatment of animals.
The rescuers took the little monkey, who they named Pearce, and brought him to the veterinarian so that he could be treated for his injuries. After three weeks, he was as good as new again. All that was left to do was to return Pearce to the wild so he could be reunited with his family.
Since monkeys are known to travel for miles within their territory, it took the rescuers a little while before they found Pearce’s family.
But eventually, they did find them near a small building where he was originally found.
Pearce was in a basket and lept out as soon as he was placed down. He enthusiastically ran over to and up the side of the building and toward his family. He struggled to get up onto the roof and his mother ran over full speed and scooped him up and into her arms.
You can tell that she missed him so much and was worried. Then his sibling runs up and gives him the biggest bear hug ever and seemed so excited to see his sibling as he embraces his brother and mom.
Pearce’s mom can be seen looking down at his rescuers as if to say, “thank you for taking care of my baby.”
This moment is truly amazing and a perfect example of how animals have emotions and love their families just like we do. Watch their touching reunion in the video below.
