A little stray dog has joined the brotherhood at St. Francis Monastery in Cochabamba, Bolivia. The adorable furry monk has his own habit and a formal title: Friar Bigotón, which translates to Friar Mustache.
The monastery was named after St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, so it makes sense that the monastery would welcome their new furry brother with open arms.
Friar Bigotón loves living in the monastery. “His life is all about playing and running,” Friar Jorge Fernandez told The Dodo. “Here, all of the brothers love him very much. He is a creature of God.”
The local animal group Cold Nose Rescue, who helped the monks adopt their dog, praised the monastery’s decision to take in a stray. “If only all the churches of our country would adopt a dog and care for him like Friar Bigotón. We are sure that the parishioners would follow his example,” they write in a Facebook post.
One of the monks shared photos on Facebook of Friar Bigotón’s first days at the monastery. The photos show the pup exploring the monastery, checking out the fish in the monastery’s pond, and hanging out with his human brothers.
From these photos, it’s clear that Friar Bigotón is being well cared for in his new home. The monks have given this little dog who started out on the street a happy life full of fun and friends!
