Food, water, and shelter are drives that almost all animals share, even humans. While we may not know it, we share quite a bit of behavior with other animals across the world! Among the primary drives, the protection of those we love is often one of those behaviors.
Like us humans, animal mothers have instincts that help them protect their young.
One of the most common features that animals have is the concept of motherly love! Mommas all across the world (animals and humans alike) have the incredible instinct to protect their kids with all they have.
We formally honor our moms once a year on Mother’s Day, but their jobs probably merit more than just one day! From all our mothers do, we owe our livelihood and lives to them. Funny enough, the animal kingdom has some pretty incredible moms, too! One of the most famous animal mommas is one you may have heard of.
Momma bears have quite a reputation.
If there is one idiom that most people know about bears, it’s that you shouldn’t get between a mother and her cubs! Momma bears have a reputation of doing anything to make sure their cubs are protected.
This show of protection tells us a lot about the motherly instinct!
Many human mommas would agree with bear mommas in that they would do anything to protect their little ones. Many animals share this trait. It is such a beautiful display of affection, intelligence, and love in so many creatures.
Watch this bear momma do something incredible.
Now that we know momma bears will do anything to protect their young, this story is to be expected! On May 4, 2020, a video was captured of the lengths that a momma will go in order to protect her cubs.
Firefighters from Lake Tahoe got a call about a little bear family that had become separated.
Bears travel quite the distances in search of food and water. This little family seemed to be on the trail looking for some food when they became separated. Once the realization that the cubs were separated set in, the momma bear reacted.
The video was captured by the South Lake Tahoe Fire Fighters Association.
While going about their normal day, firefighters from the South Lake Tahoe Fire Fighters Association got a call that a momma bear and her three cubs might be in some trouble.
Getting to the scene, the men were prepared to help reunite the separated family.
Once they got to the site, more light was shed on the situation. One of the cubs had made it across a small channel of water and the other two cubs were stuck on the other side of the shore.
Even though the firefighters were willing to help, it seems that the momma bear was taking care of the problem herself!
As momma bear realized her cubs were separated, she took action. Getting in the water, she slowly coaxed the first cub in with her and accompanied him all the way across.
With one more cub to go, she was tired and he was being a bit difficult.
When momma bear returned for her final cub, he was a bit reluctant and didn’t really want to go. Finally, she just placed him on her back and swam the little guy across to the other side! That is motherly love!
Moms all across the world should be celebrated for their constant courage and bravery!
While most moms may not be carrying their kids across rivers, they still have sacrificed for us!
