When winter hits and the first bit of snow falls, every animal and child wants to play. Building snowmen, making snow angels, and having intense snowball fights are all part of being a kid in winter. But sledding? Sledding tops them all.

When the first bit of snow fell on Southern Maryland back in 2015, children couldn’t wait to pull out their sleds— and the kids who lived at White Tail Farm weren’t any different!

White Tail Farm is a 100-acre farm in Charles County, Maryland, known for its adorable miniature horses. Located 40 miles south of Washington D.C, the family property had originally been used to grow tobacco. But now, after having reared animals like hogs, dogs, sheep, cattle, the owners have focused on breeding these tiny horses instead.

These days, the farm is run by Marlene and Holly, a mother and daughter-in-law. Holly’s children live on the farm— and when that first snow storm finally came, it would be an understatement to say the kids weren’t excited to go play.

The farm children gathered up their sleds and headed to the property’s hills. When they tried to go for a ride, though, the horses demanded a turn too!

Contrary to popular belief, it should be noted, miniature horses and ponies are not the same animals. According to The Miniature Horse, ponies are shorter than 58 inches at the top of the shoulder, but “the miniature horse is something different”. Firstly, a miniature horse will be shorter than even the shortest pony, with a strict height of 34 inches or less. Secondly, their bodies are that of regular horses but smaller, whereas ponies are known to have wide, muscular necks and short legs for their size.

Holly and Marlene are third-generation farmers, but they had never expected something like this! Luckily though, Marlene was quick enough to get it all on camera, in a clip which has since gone viral. Throughout the entire recording, she laughs hysterically in seeming disbelief.

In the video, you see Marlene’s grandson Johnathan flooded with miniatures horses.

“Hard to slide down the hill around here because the babies all want their turn,” Marlene explains.

When the boy picks up his sled and heads up the hill, the horses start following him in an orderly line. It really does look like they’re waiting for their turn to slide!

When Johnathan finally gets to the top of the hill and goes for another ride, the horsies are always right behind him.

“How cool is that?” Marlene laughs.

Since being uploaded in 2015, Marlene’s video has been viewed over 400,000 times— going viral many times over.
