What does a dog who never lived in a home look like?
In Nebraska, a shelter took in a 130-pound St. Bernard dog. This breed is notorious for its sheer size which can double as furniture at home.

But as big as this dog got, it somehow never learned how to live inside a house. For starters, it doesn’t know how to climb the stairs. It doesn’t know how to climb a car or get down from it. It doesn’t know what treats are. Fortunately, a loving family is more than willing to show him the ropes.
Jayne flew all the way from New York to Nebraska just to pick up Cosmo.
The shelter that took Cosmo in didn’t know why he was surrendered. Fortunately for them, Cosmo turned out to be a gentle giant who loves snoozing and laying under the sun.

Jayne, meanwhile, saw the shelter’s advertisement. She said that when she saw Cosmo looking at the camera with pleading eyes, she knew he was the dog for her and her family.
The two met each other for the first time in Nebraska.
The not-so-little Cosmo didn’t know that this is the moment where his life will change forever. They exchange their first hellos and it was apparent that they have taken a liking for each other.

Cosmo and Jane then drove back to upstate New York where her family was excitedly waiting for their new member.

It was a bit of a struggle at first because Cosmo doesn’t know what a car was or how to get in one. They had to carry him just so they could be on their way.
After a long journey, they reached a large farmhouse.
The house had plenty of space and the yard was big enough for all the dogs to run around. It was a perfect place for a dog like Cosmo.

Jayne walked her around the house so Cosmo can familiarize himself with his new home. He smelled the cupboards and the pieces of furniture and even claimed a spot in the kitchen where he plopped himself right in.

There was still a lot for him to learn but fortunately, Jayne’s family, together with their other dogs, was more than willing to guide him through the process.
After four days, Cosmo was getting the hang of things.
He started playing with the other dogs – with “playing” meaning lying down on the ground while trying to wrestle. He also knows how to ask for cuddles even if he acts like a lap dog sometimes.

After a couple of weeks, Cosmo was coming close to becoming a full-fledged house dog. He has now unlocked “house dog skills” like laying his chin on the table to ask for human food or going to the bathroom to get a big gulp from the toilet.
Two months later, Cosmo was living his best life.
Jayne would talk her to walks in the wilderness together with his new doggie siblings. He splashed down on nearby rivers and vigorously marched through the beaten paths.

He would still act a bit strange from time to time, like when tries to fit himself in places that are not “St. Bernard-sized” spots. But all in all. We can say that the gentle giant has finally found a place to call home.
