About four years ago, this 18-month-old puppy became an internet sensation for her amusing way of expressing displeasure.
It all started when Fern and her owners, Graham and Fiona Haddow, were out for a day of shopping.
Fern was having the time of her life until her parents had to make a stop at an art gallery, and unfortunately, dogs weren’t allowed inside.
Left in the car, Fern watched as her parents disappeared into the Dundee, Scotland, gallery.
Not one to sit idly by, Fern decided to take matters into her own… paws.
What she did next not only solved her problem but also caught the attention of the entire internet.
Fern’s solution? She hopped into the driver’s seat and, with her right paw, began to honk the car horn.
And she didn’t just give it a quick toot; she kept at it for a full fifteen minutes.
Passersby, initially concerned that someone in the car might be having a medical emergency, were taken aback to find Fern at the wheel, honking away.
They couldn’t resist capturing this hilarious moment on their phones.
Graham recalls the incident vividly: “I came out of the gallery and looked down the street about a hundred yards away and saw a crowd gathered around a car and heard a honking sound.” At first, he was worried something might have happened to Fern. “I started running because I was worried something had happened to her,” he said. “When I got closer, I realized people were pointing and laughing and taking pictures.”
“She was sitting there, casually honking the horn,” Graham added, still amused by the memory.
Fern’s reaction when Graham finally appeared was priceless.
“Usually when Fern sees me, she stands up and gets excited with her tail wagging,” Graham said.
“This time, she just gave me a sideways glance and kept on honking the horn.”
Fiona, Graham’s wife, humorously interpreted Fern’s actions: “It was as if she [Fern] was saying, ‘Where have you been? I’ve been waiting.’”
Fern’s display of impatience and her human-like sass had everyone in stitches.
The footage of Fern’s little protest quickly went viral, with people all over the world laughing at her incredibly human-like reaction and her undeniable sass.
