Unfortunately in this world exists a cruel evil that poisons the mind of some causing them to commit unspeakable acts.

Jared Twedell had to bear witness to one of these acts committed on an innocent animal.

He drove out to his local recycling center when he saw something strange that caught his eye.

“There are railroad tracks near the gate, and out of the corner of my eye, I caught this flicker of movement,” Twedell told The Dodo. “I thought it was a deer lying on the tracks.”

Twedell decided to whistle at the animal hoping it would scare it and allow it to jump off the tracks.

But that’s not what happened. Twedell saw the animal perk its ears up and realized that it wasn’t a deer but a dog.

He also realized that the dog was tied to the train tracks and couldn’t leave on his own.

“I went into panic mode,” Twedell said. “He tried to walk toward the car and the rope pulled him back.”

Twedell knew that the train ran over those tracks three times but he didn’t know when the next train would come and how long he had to save the dog.

But he knew he had to try.

Twedell jumped out of the car and rushed over to further observe the dog and see how he could help.

“He was obviously scared,” Twedell said. “I was worried about whether or not he would let me get close to him. I patted my leg and said, ‘Hey little buddy!’ His tail just started wagging. That’s when I knew he would be OK with me approaching him.”

Twedell could tell that the poor dog was exhausted from being in the heat and that he had been intentionally left there.

The thought of this deeply disturbed Twedell.

“The rope was tied in a figure eight, like you would use to tie a boat to a dock,” Twedell said. “Someone did this 100 percent on purpose. It just made me sick.”

Twedell was able to untie the dog and bring him safely off the tracks.

And after that, he decided that the dog would be the newest member of his family.

He loaded the dog, who he named Train, into his car and drove him home. When he got there, Twedell’s family decided that Samson was a better name.

Samson got a nice bath and got to hang out with the family’s other pets: two rescue dogs, cats, and a Flemish giant rabbit.

And they are all getting along great.

“The dogs have all been getting along great,” Twedell said. “All they’ve been doing since I brought Samson home is play.”

Samson is already pretty big and is expected to grow since he’s estimated to be about 6-months-old.

Twedell says he doesn’t think the dog would have survived in that heat with his weight.

“He’s a really great dog,” Twedell said. “This little guy had someone watching over him.”
