When Steve Booker found a stranded turtle out in Cozumel, Mexico, he immediately sprung into action.

The encounter was purely coincidental. While on vacation in Cozumel, Steve woke up early on July 17 to watch the sunrise. As he was hiking along the beach, he discovered the helpless sea turtle stranded on its back.

“I thought she was dead then she started blinking her eyes. I had to help,” Steve wrote alongside his video.

Carefully making his way over to the large reptile, Steve proceeds to help turn the sea turtle over from his back to its stomach.

You can see the turtle nervously flapping her arms as he approaches, but she lets him get close enough to help flip her over.

“I think that turtle fell off the ridge. I think it crossed the road and came back over and fell off that ledge there and landed there. Poor thing’s probably hurt,” Steve says in his recorded encounter.

Once the sea turtle was on its right side again, it wasted no time darting back to the ocean – but Steve’s rescue wasn’t done just yet. The turtle was struggling a little on its route back to sea, no doubt from the injuries it sustained when it fell. Steve noted she was “bleeding from her nose a little and her shell was cracked.”

Nevertheless, Steve let the sea turtle be and merely accompanied her for support.

“Almost there,” he says in the video as he escorts the sea turtle back to the ocean.

Before long, the turtle approaches the shore, and just in time for the sunrise too. The breathtaking sight is almost a reward for Steve’s generous act of the day.

“There she goes!” he cheers as she returns to the water, quickly disappearing beneath the waves.

The fact that Steve risked missing the sunrise while on vacation to help this poor stranded reptile speaks wonders to his good nature. But thankfully, in the end, he was still able to catch an amazing sight.

I’m sure it was one sunrise he won’t be forgetting anytime soon.
