Different dog breeds have different needs. But they need something in common: love.
Any pet treated with love and care is always happy and healthy; all positive signs would be obvious.
This is also why it’s easy to tell if a pet has been neglected. They tend to be aggressive or withdrawn and look unhealthy in any form.
A concerned neighbor in Oregon couldn’t help but notice the neglected husky next door.
The husky in her neighbor’s backyard seemed like they had neglected for years.
She hasn’t seen the dog outside their yard nor noticed him being let inside the house.
Concerned, she contacted Lee Asher of The Asher House to help her with the dog’s situation.
The House of Asher is a non-profit animal sanctuary that helps rescue animals unwanted or neglected by their owners.
Founder Lee Asher travels to different cities and states to help save one animal at a time by providing them with a safe space filled with love and care.
He drove down to where the dog was, and the woman filled her in with what she knew about the dog.
The dog’s name is Joey.
Aside from not seeing the dog anywhere other than their fenced backyard, she also said the only way the dog was fed was because she would always throw him food over her fence.
She also said that she tried talking to the owner, but she said it would be difficult to give him up without further explanation.
So, Asher prepared some treats and a leash to try and lure Joey out of the yard and take him to the groomers to get rid of the fleas on him.
But it wasn’t easy to take him because he was a mix of aggressive and playful; thanks to Lee Asher, he knew how to handle the situation very well.
When they were out of the backyard, you could see how Joey got curious about everything around him.
As Lee said, “The front of your house isn’t the most fascinating part for the dog, right? (But) to him, it’s a whole new world here.”
They left with hope in their hearts, and the concerned neighbor couldn’t help but cry tears of joy.
It took two weeks to convince the owner to finally give Joey up to The Asher House.
He took Joey home, and he was finally in a loving place as he deserved to be.
Lee took him to a training facility so he would get used to other dogs, then he brought his other dogs (aka The Pack) to introduce them to Joey slowly.
The progress of Joey’s new life and freedom went very well.
With all the love The Asher House showered on him, especially since he has more playmates now, you can see in Joey’s disposition that he was happy to be part of The Pack.
Thanks to a concerned neighbor and everything that Lee and The Asher House stand for.
