Earlier this year a man named Slava was driving in the snow along a road when he noticed what appeared to be a small ball of frozen fur on the side of the road.

“I thought it was an animal and it must be freezing in this weather,” explained Slava.

He saw that many cars were passing by, but no one was stopping to help – so he decided to take matters into his own hands and rescue this poor animal from the freezing cold conditions.

He turned his car around and got out of the vehicle, but the animal was simply too scared. It stumbled towards a tree to seek shelter and hide. As he got closer, he realized it was in fact a small cat – covered in snow and barely able to move. When we approached it, it was completely immobile and silent.

“It was very cold, so I wrapped her up in a towel and brought her back to my car. I turned up the heat to full capacity to help remove the frost on her coat,” said Slava.

Slava brought the cat to his fathers house. He named her Nika and gave her a warm bed to rest in to try and raise her body temperature. He then wrapped her in several warm blankets and put a radiator and a lamp beside the bed.

The helpless cat was so thankful to be warm and safe inside with her rescuer that she spent hours purring and rubbing up against him.

“I think that the kitten got lost and ended up in a field with a few trees and she couldn’t find the exit due to heavy snow and did not have the strength to move,” he said.

As soon as she had recovered from the cold, Slava took her to the vet to get her properly examined. They were able to determine that Nika was a six months old and her tail was so badly affected by frostbite that it needed to be amputated. Nika took the surgery in her stride and made a great recovery.

“She knew that we were trying to help. She was patient, did not complain and was very sweet the whole time.” said Slava.

Since then, Nika has really come to life and he kitten inside her has been able to shine through.

“She is an active cat who likes to play and run,” said Slava.

Nika just turned eight months old.

Thanks to her rescuer Slava, she is now a sweet fluffy little kitten, living in a warm and loving home.
