Baby squirrels can often become lost if they fall out of their nests. Thankfully, for one little squirrel, they happened to land at the right place at the right time.
A man named Rahul Sharma was having breakfast on his balcony one morning when he decided to peer over the edge. On the street below, he noticed a tiny animal lying on the street below — it was a little squirrel. He immediately ran down to the street to rescue the creature before it became breakfast for a passing dog or cat.
Cupping the little squirrel into his hands, he took the animal into the safety of his apartment and cleaned it with a soft cloth. After surveying the situation outside, he realized that the tiny squirrel had fallen into a drain from its nest perched upon the electric pole.
The itty bitty squirrel was so exhausted from its fall; it seemed to have surrendered into Rahul’s hands.
Rahul, who is a photographer, had always wanted a squirrel for a pet but knew that they were very shy and independent creatures. He was ecstatic to have the little animal in his life and ran to the medical store to by a dropper to feed it some milk. He even started to think of names to call the small squirrel.
The little baby immediately took to the dropper, and they seemed to be perfectly content in the kind man’s home. The squirrel even had a little home which was made out of a shoebox with some cotton inside. It wasn’t long until it was chattering away and gaining its energy back. The photographer was ecstatic.
Sitting outside with the baby squirrel on his shoulders, he noticed another squirrel that was hesitantly approaching him. He knew right away it was the baby’s mom.
“I could clearly feel that she was afraid of me but that didn’t stop her from coming close to me. She looked at me intently and then softly touched my hand as if graciously thanking me for saving her baby’s life,” Rahul said on his YouTube channel Life From My Eyes.
The baby squirrel greeted its mom, and she quickly went to work kissing and grooming it. They stayed in front of the man for a few moments before the mom decided it was time to return to the nest. Although Rahul was sad he couldn’t keep the squirrel; he couldn’t have been more grateful for the experience.
“After showering oodles of love on her baby, the squirrel turned towards me and touched me again and then quietly picked her baby in her mouth and disappeared.”
Rahul was over the moon that he was able to save the baby’s life and to witness the reunion with its mother. The footage of these sweet rescue below has been viewed over 3 million times.
