When a man came across a hawk in dire need of help he was completely astonished by what he saw.
The man started to record the situation, and you can hear the distress in his voice once he got up close to the creature.
The bird looked pretty haggard and significantly stressed lying in the shallow end of a body of brown water.
A close view shows that the poor hawk is very badly tied up in a fishing line.
It was wrapped around his head and neck and intertwined around his talons.
The fishing line was also attached to a large branch. The man knew he would have to cut the bird free.
But that meant that he would have to get close to the hawk’s sharp beak and talons.
The man took the risk anyway knowing he had to save the bird.
He looked a little nervous approaching the bird, and with good reason.
“Hawks can be dangerous to humans if they come near hawk nests during the nesting season. Hawks also can spread diseases that might be transmitted to humans. However, most conflicts between hawks and humans result in only minor injuries like cuts and scrapes,” Bird Gap explains.
The bird was a touch apprehensive at first but when the man gently pulled the bird toward him, the bird didn’t hesitate.
He looked completely calm as if he knew the man was going to help him.
The man starts quickly cutting away at the fishing line with a knife only to realize this isn’t going to go as fast as he thought.
The bird’s talons were so intricately wrapped up that he had to gently cut between each hawk toe.
The bird feels some of the fishing lines loosen and starts to flap his wings in the water.
The hawk’s feet, however, are still badly tangled. He lets the man hold his legs tight while the man cuts him out. It’s pretty incredible to see how trusting this wild animal is.
Finally, the man is able to pull away large pieces of string away, including the one around his neck.
The man tries to unwrap a piece around the back of the bird’s head where the bird can’t see.
This makes the hawk nervous and he starts to flap his wing in a bit of panic but calms down again to let the man continue with his rescue.
The man grabs the bird’s legs again as he tries to widdle through the rest of the string around the hawk’s feet.
A little bit more work and all of the string is removed. The man pulls the rest of the string away and takes the bird by the legs and pulls him out of the water.
The bird finally realizes he’s free when he is laid down on the sand and can walk again. That’s when he takes flight to enjoy his freedom.
