Andrew Falloon is an MP in the New Zealand parliament, representing Rangitata. Falloon is also an active Twitter user, and typically, he tweets about issues in his constituency.
In April 2019, Falloon sent out a different type of tweet than usual.
In this tweet, Falloon revealed that his father had undergone surgery. It was a minor operation, and Falloon’s father was able to recover at home. Falloon’s dad spent most of his time napping on the couch.
During one of these naps, Falloon’s mother went out to run a few errands, and she left the back door slightly open. A cat saw that the door was opened and slipped inside.
The cat saw Falloon’s dad napping on the couch and decided to join him!

When Falloon’s mom came home, she was shocked to find a strange cat hanging out with her husband. She carefully woke him up, trying not to disturb the cat.
“My dad hasn’t been the biggest cat person so I think he was as surprised as anyone when Mum woke him up,” Falloon told The Dodo.
The cat hung around for a little while, playing with Falloon’s parents. His parents started joking that the cat was almost like a little doctor.
“Dr. Ziggy stayed around for a bit of a smooch, but then took off to his next appointment,” Falloon said.
Falloon’s parents later learned that the cat was named Ziggy, and he lived in the neighborhood. He loved roaming around and visiting different people in the neighborhood, and it just happened to be Falloon’s parents turn that day.
As everyone knows, hanging out with a cat can help you feel better. And it turned out, this was the case for Falloon’s dad too.
“Dad is well and truly on the mend now after his operation,” Falloon said.
Falloon’s tweet about this incident quickly went viral, receiving over 500,000 likes and retweets. Everyone was amused by the way Ziggy let himself inside and made himself at home.
Many Twitter users shared their own stories about the times they were chosen by a cat. One user shared the story of the time they saved a cat with cat flu:
“I was chosen by a cat once. Well, I saved it. It was dying of cat flu under snow in my garden so I took it in, warmed it up and took it to a vet. Paid 1/2 of the bills because it wasn’t chipped. It came back to our house after the vets. Stayed for two weeks, ate loads then left.”
Another Twitter user said that their cat ran right up to them in the shelter:
“Our first kitty picked us out at the shelter. Ran right up to my husband and jumped right into his arms.”
Sweet Ziggy seemed to realize that Falloon’s dad needed some love and cuddles, and he happily provided them. We’re so glad Falloon’s dad is doing better!
