Believe it or not, hundreds of adorable puppies end up in dumpsters every day. One guy from Greece made it his mission to save abandoned puppies wherever he can find them. Takis has saved 500 dogs so far and doesn’t plan to stop!
Takis goes to dumpsters every day to save abandoned puppies
You have to be pretty heartless to throw puppies in a dumpster but sadly, it happens every day. Fortunately, Takis goes to dumpsters every day and looks around to find puppies who were abandoned by their neglectful owners.
So far he has saved more than 500 dogs many of whom were hungry or in need of veterinary aid. Takis owns a shelter in Greece, on the island of Crete where he lives.
Thanks to Takis, hundreds of puppies have already found a new home
There are over a million stray dogs in Greece and many abandoned puppies still need Takis’ help. As he diligently goes about searching for puppies on the dump and abandoned streets, Takis can’t hide his excitement whenever he finds an accidental litter along the deserted road, with small, helpless, and scared puppies in it.
“One woman called me and said they abandoned two puppies next to the sea. They just threw them there,” Takis said.
The puppies he rescues are excited to see him and love to cuddle! His love for them is almost palpable!
“Hey! My loves! Four beautiful small sized puppies, look at them!” he says as four, dark, adorable puppies rush towards him, wagging their tiny tails. “The town is down there, we are away from the town and they throw all these puppies,” he explains.

Takis doesn’t only help nurse puppies back to health but also gives them plenty of love. Without him, these puppies would be left homeless and many of them would likely die from hunger or exposure.
However, Takis is not alone! His little helper, Faith, one of the dogs he rescued, takes care of the newly-rescued puppies as if she is their mom! As soon as the puppies are strong enough, Takis begins to search for a new home for them.
His heart is full whenever one of his dogs get adopted because he knows it’s the beginning of a new and happy life for them!
“Have a good trip, my baby,” he says affectionately as he bids one of his dogs farewell.
Takis has dedicated his life to saving abandoned dogs
Initially, Takis used to go to the garbage dump every day and feed abandoned dogs there. He would not give up even after people started to complain and threaten him.
“No, you will not do anything to the dogs. Just give me 30 days and I will find to take all the dogs away from the rubbish,” he said.
He then bought land and build a shelter and has been helping save abandoned puppies ever since. He takes care of more than 300 dogs all by himself but doesn’t have any regrets for abandoning everything to save stray dogs.
Thanks to donations from people around the world, Takis was able to keep his shelter and continue to do what he loves.
“This is not a job. This is the reason to live, what I’m doing.”
