One cold March day, an unexpected discovery was made by a man preparing to move into his newly purchased home.

He was taken aback to find a pit bull chained in the basement.

He promptly reached out to Stray Rescue of St. Louis, sharing, “I just bought a house and there is a pit bull chained up in the basement. I’m not sure how long it’s been down there.”

It was later revealed that a squatter had previously occupied the house and had hastily abandoned it, tragically leaving the dog behind.

Without hesitation, the rescuers from Stray Rescue of St. Louis sprang into action.

Although the homeowner was unavailable, his friend facilitated the rescuers’ entry.

With a mix of anticipation and caution, they ventured into the basement, uncertain of the dog’s temperament given her prolonged confinement.

To their relief and delight, the pit bull’s reaction was nothing short of heartwarming.

The moment she spotted the rescuers, her tail began to wag enthusiastically, and she exuberantly jumped around. The joy of the impending rescue was palpable.

Natalie Thomson, the Communications Director of Stray Rescue of St. Louis, recounted the touching moment to The Dodo:

“When we opened the door to the basement and shined our flashlight down, we saw a wagging tail. She was nearly choking herself as she was so excited to see us. When we freed her, she couldn’t stop jumping up and down and giving hugs.”

After allowing her a few moments to revel in her newfound freedom, the rescuers removed her chain and secured her with a leash.

They then introduced her to the outdoors, where she reveled in the warmth of the sun.

Her boundless energy and joy earned her the fitting name “Jumping Bean.”

The next step was to transport Jumping Bean to the shelter.

Throughout the journey, her tail never ceased its joyful wagging.

She was engrossed in sniffing every nook and cranny of the van and was equally fascinated by the world outside the window.

Upon arrival at the shelter, Jumping Bean adapted seamlessly.

Her spirit remained indefatigable, and she radiated positivity, endearing herself to everyone she encountered.

Despite her harrowing past, she remained an epitome of resilience and joy.

Currently, Jumping Bean is under the care of Stray Rescue of St. Louis, undergoing treatment for earworms.

As she recuperates, the shelter is diligently searching for a loving forever home for her.

Eagerly awaiting her new family, Jumping Bean is poised to bring boundless joy and love into their lives.
