Neighbor says family came back to pick up their belongings from home but not their dog
The dog named Boo waited for his owners to return and when they finally did they didn't take him with them. So when a stranger saw Boo's photo online he knew he had to personally go and visit him.

Thousands of pets get left behind every day. Many of them get abandoned by their irresponsible owners and left on their own, have a hard time finding shelter and food. Luckily, there are good people out there who won’t rest until they’ve taken care of abandoned pets and provided a loving home for these neglected animals.

It’s heartbreaking to see an abandoned pet. Deprived of love and comfort of home, these once faithful companions roam the streets without shelter from the elements. Because many shelters are overcrowded, they take in lost pets for only a short period of time before euthanizing them.

Boo was just one of many dogs abandoned by their owners.

The heartbreaking image of Boo sleeping on an old mattress emerged online after his former owners’ neighbor posted it on a Facebook page for dogs. He asked nearby Detroit shelters to take him in but nobody showed up.

Things were looking bad for Boo. With no shelter willing to take him in, he seemed doomed to spend the night out in the open. It was then an unlikely hero came along to save the day!

Mike Diesel, the founder of Detroit Youth and Dog Rescue, saw the heartbreaking photo and jumped to the rescue

Unbeknownst to Boo, help was on the way! Mike Diesel, the founder of Detroit Youth and Dog Rescue – a nonprofit organization, drove out to rescue Boo and take him to shelter!

“He was just lying there, being his loyal self,” Diesel told The Dodo in October. “Pillows were still on the mattress. Being the loyal dog he was supposed to be, he waited for his master to come back.”

A real pro, Mike spent hours sitting and talking with Boo to make sure he was comfortable and ready for his trip to safety! He then drove Boo to the vet to have him checked for health conditions and provide the medical assistance he needed.

Boo soon found a new home but never forgot his rescuer

When Mike took Boo to a foster home in Detroit, he didn’t expect the woman who took him in would fall in love with him and formally adopt him a few months later!

“Boo eats rotisserie chicken and filet mignon on the regular and is beyond spoiled,” Diesel said. “I’ve been able to visit him a lot which makes me happy. I’ve probably been to see him six to eight times now and he’s beyond happy with his new life.”

Mike truly has a big heart and we can only applaud his kindness and devotion that changed Boo’s life forever and turned a nightmare into a fairytale!
