Steve Greig from Colorado works as an accountant and has quite an extensive household of pets. The man takes care of no less than ten senior dogs, a couple of cats and a bunch of farm animals including but not limited to chickens, ducks, and pigeons. Steve is also the owner of an adorable little bunny and beautiful and majestic koi fish.

Clearly, Steve is someone with a large heart for animals and pets. He particularly focuses on providing senior shelter dogs a happy life at his place, giving them the attention and love they deserve.

“I grew up with a lot of pets,” the man said to The Dodo. “Both my parents were animal lovers and they pretty much always let me have whatever I wanted as long as I could take care of it.”

When he got older and moved into his own place, he never felt alone as a couple of dogs were always around. Tragically, one of Steve’s pets passed away. Steve felt horrible as he not only lost his dog but his best friend as well.

“I was just so distraught about [that death],” Steve recalls. “A month or two went by and I still felt so horrible about it. I decided that the only way I would feel better was if something good happened that probably wouldn’t have happened if he had not died.”

Greg then decided to devote his life to adopting those who needed it the most. He headed to the nearest shelter he could find and look for the “least adoptable” pup.

He wanted to honor his best friend’s life by helping others like him.

“So I adopted a 12-year-old Chihuahua [named Eeyore] with a heart murmur and four bad knees and I brought him home and that was just the beginning of all the animals,” he recalls. “They’re just wiser animals,” he said. “You kind of know what you want out of life once you become a certain age. These dogs know who they are and it’s easy to develop a relationship with a person or pet who knows who they are.”

After Steve adopted the adorable Eeyore, he certainly didn’t stop there. His house is filled with animals and it’s absolutely amazing. Steve has also created an Instagram account where he posts pictures of all of them, where he currently has over 700,000 followers.

Even though taking care of so many animals does take up quite some time – especially with a demanding job – he more than happily takes time for all of them.

“A normal day for me is getting up at 5 a.m. in the morning and making breakfast for all of them, which, you know, there’s 10 [dogs] and most of them have different diets,” he said.

Bikini, an adorable pig, is one of the animals that gets a lot of attention from others, peculiarly because she likes to behave as a dog and play around with the pups.

“They just make it feel like home,” Steve says. “It’s just fulfilling knowing that these guys are happy and loved and well-taken care of. It makes my days worthwhile.”
