Meet Shaun Ellis: an animal researcher who has devoted his life to caring for his wolf pack.
Shaun first met his three wolves when they were just a few days old. He instantly fell in love with them, and he knew that he wanted to be accepted into their pack. To do that, he only ate meat, rarely bathed, and often slept in the wolves’ muddy enclosure.
His plan worked, and the wolf cubs accepted him. Now, as adults, the wolves are still just as fond of Shaun.
Shaun and his wife Isla live in Devon, England with their wolves. Shaun and Ilsa met at a mutual friends’ house, and they bonded over their love for Native American culture. Now, they live in a teepee next to the wolves’ enclosure.
Isla has grown fond of the wolves, and Shaun is teaching her how to interact with them. He’s also helping her learn how to communicate with the wolves by howling.
Shaun hopes that his work with the wolves will show people that the animals don’t deserve their reputation for being vicious. He told Barcroft TV:
“They don’t deserve the maligned reputation that they’ve got. They’re not vicious creatures that will attack us by the full moon. And it’s ironic that to this day we have people that call them savage, ruthless, killer. But I know them as family.”
At his Wolf Centre, Shaun has done great work educating the public on what wolves are like and how their social structure works. Through his work, Shaun has been able to change peoples’ perception of these amazing creatures. If you’d like to learn more about Shaun and his wolves, check out the video below.
