When it comes to our neighbors, showing some understanding and minding our own business is usually the best way to go.
But when someone’s life is in clear and present danger, you might have to forgo the whole minding your own business thing.
That’s what one Redditor, who goes by the name nofx-linoleum, did when he saw a severely emaciated dog tied up in a yard.
The Redditor lives in the Caribbean and was driving along in his car when he looked over into a yard while stopped at a corner.
He noticed an incredibly sickly looking dog in the through a chainlink fence.
The dog, who he would eventually name Sunny, was lying in the dirt attached to a 5-foot lead.
“So, in my last post, I did not say the entire story. I live somewhere in the Caribbean and a lot of homes only have chain link fences so you can see into most yards,” the nofx-linoleum wrote on Facebook. “This day I was driving down the road at stopped at a corner and when I looked to my left I saw Sunny on her 5-foot lead in the dirt curled up into a ball.”
He was heartbroken to see a dog that was so neglected and uncared for.
He knew he couldn’t just keep on driving.
So, he decided to get out of his car and investigate what was going on and if he could liberate the dog.
He realized he could, especially since the dog was friendly.
“My heart sank and I knew I had to get that pupper out of there. So, I got out my truck and began to call out to her and she looked and wagged her tail and that was it,” he said.
He didn’t find evidence of anyone being home so he decided he would come up with a plan to take the dog.
Poor Sunny was so skinny that you could see every bone in her body pushing through her skin.
“The only thing stopping you is a fence,” the passerby explained. “You must jump it and hand over the dog to me!”
So, nofx-linoleum leaped over the fence and grabbed up the dog.
Once he got back at the fence, he handed the dog off.
But you might just want to call the authorities rather than trespass on private property.
You can always offer to pay for medical expenses and adopt the dog after the authorities apprehend it. Vigilantism should be a last resort or the option when the help of the authorities isn’t available.
She’s gaining weight and is happy living with her new owner and his other rescue dogs.
