Our phones aren’t just for keeping in contact with people – often they’re the place where we keep photos filled with special memories and old messages that we don’t want to delete.
So when a man dropped his phone into a pretty deep looking harbor, he thought that it was lost forever. But thankfully, he had a very special friend on hand to help him: a whale! The whale dived deep into the water to retrieve the phone and actually brought it up into the man’s hands. What a helpful little guy!
The video was posted onto YouTube by tuuuben one year ago and has already raked in an impressive 12.4 million views, as well as thousands of likes and comments. And after seeing the whale’s amazing act for ourselves, we can easily see why!
Our story begins in a harbor, where a man and his friend are filming a whale as it swims around the area. They must both be excited to see the whale from so close up- after all, how often do you spot a whale in your local harbor?
One of the men in particular seems determined to get a good shot of the whale. Both of them splash the surface of the water to try and encourage the whale to swim towards them, and the man on the right leans further and further out into the water.
But as he uses his left hand to create turbulence in the water, the man’s grip on the phone in his right hand loosens, and the phone slips out of his grip.
One of most people’s worst nightmares has to be dropping their valuables into the water. How often have you been leaning over the edge of a pool to take a photo, or texting your friend in the bath, when you have that terrifying moment where your phone almost slips out of your hands?
Luckily, the party doesn’t seem to be distressed about the man’s phone, and they even begin to laugh. The phone falls a considerable way through the water and then comes to rest on the bottom of the harbor, where it can at least still be seen from the ground above.
Usually, when something like this happens, there would then be an argument about who is going to jump in and collect the phone. The men would have to decide who was wearing the most waterproof clothes, and who was the better swimmer. But in this case, the best swimmer was already in the water…
As soon as the whale notices the dropped phone, it instantly jumps into action.
The clever little guy dives deep to the bottom of the harbor and picks up the phone with his mouth, before bringing it right back up into the man’s hands. It’s as if he knew that the group had dropped something that they wanted back again!
Many people took to the YouTube comments to express their awe for the clever whale, with one person saying:
“Okay, there is something so special about these Beluga whales, they are so intelligent.”
Another person added:
“This is one of those, ‘if it wasn’t recorded, you wouldn’t believe it’ but it was recorded.”
