The ocean, vast and awe-inspiring, holds a sense of exhilaration and a tinge of fear, especially when you’re out there on a boat, surrounded by endless waves.

It’s the fear of the unknown that grips you, as you ponder over the mysteries lurking beneath the surface.

In the past, to quench the curiosity about these oceanic depths, one would have to don scuba gear and dive into the waters.

But Captain Dave Anderson discovered a new way to explore these mysteries without getting wet.

While out on his small inflatable boat near Dana Point, California, he decided to launch a drone for a better view.

The footage captured by Captain Dave’s drone is nothing short of breathtaking.

As the drone ascends, it reveals an astonishing sight – the boat is encircled by a massive gathering of dolphins.

This isn’t just a small group; there are thousands of them, leaping and splashing in what Captain Dave aptly calls a “Dolphin Stampede”.

But dolphins aren’t the only marine life captured in his footage.

Captain Dave also shares a clip of “three gray whales migrating together down the coast off San Clemente, California”.

The aerial view provides a crystal-clear perspective of these majestic creatures, proving that you don’t need to dive underwater to witness the wonders of the ocean.

Captain Dave’s adventures with his drone haven’t been without challenges.

He recalls a particularly risky incident when he crashed his drone into the ocean.

Driven by impulse and the desire to save the valuable footage, he dove into the cold, late-January waters off Dana Point.

“Alone six miles offshore Capt. Dave, without thinking, dove into the cold, late-January waters off Dana Point to retrieve the valuable footage taken on a flight a half hour earlier that morning,” he recounts. “I had my hat and glasses on, I was fully clothed with long-johns on to keep warm and my cell phone and wallet in my pocket,” Captain Dave explained.

“It was a stupid move, but the copter started sinking so fast it was my only hope to get the amazing footage I had just shot.” It was a gamble, but fortunately, it paid off.

The video also features a heartwarming scene of a newborn Humpback whale calf off the coast of Maui, Hawaii.

The calf, playful and carefree, snuggles up to its mother as they swim.

Watching over them is another whale, ensuring their safety as they glide through the water.

Captain Dave is overwhelmed by the beauty and insights gained from this drone footage.

“This is the most beautiful and compelling five-minute video I have ever put together,” he says. “I learned so much about these whales and dolphins from this drone footage that it feels like I have entered a new dimension! I have not been this excited about a new technology since we built our underwater viewing pods on our whale watching boat. Drones are going to change how we view the animal world. Wow!”
