There are few scarier things than an angry mama bear! They will stop at nothing to make sure their cubs are safe and secure. If you see a bear cub in the forest, you better run! Ultimately, moms in the human and animal kingdom love their little ones, even if the way they do it is different.

This mama dog proves that motherly love isn’t just reserved for humans!

Cora is a wonderfully sweet dog that was brought to the Marin Human Society for no real reason. Sometimes, people just drop off their dogs without a rhyme or reason and it’s not usually a good thing. When Cora finally went for her checkup, it became clear why things happened the way they did.

During her medical checkup, the vets found something interesting.

While the sweet dog was getting a check-up, the vets discovered that she had recently given birth to a litter of puppies! From what it looked like, Cora gave birth to the litter and her owners wanted the puppies and not her.

Putting the pieces together, the shelter understood why the poor dog was acting the way she was.

During her stay at the shelter, Cora was disheartened and depressed looking. With the knowledge that Cora had puppies she loved and was then taken to a strange place, all the pieces fit together. She missed her pups!

Knowing what they had to do, the shelter jumped straight to action.

They reached out to the original family who dropped Cora off and confirmed their guesses. Knowing how horrible it must be for Cora, they did their best to convince the owners to let them reunite the broken family.

“We told them that it was best for the dogs to be nursed by their mother,” says Lisa Bloch of the Marin Humane Society.

After some convincing, they were finally able to get them to bring the little ones to the shelter!

With this news, the shelter celebrated! They decided to name all the pups after characters in the show Downton Abbey (the season finale had recently been released). Cora, Mosley, Branson, Edith, and Carson were now one big family again.

The best part? When Cora saw her babies for the first time.

In the emotional moment, Cora is allowed to see her little ones for the first time in a while – her reaction is priceless! The timid and fearful dog that came into the shelter transformed into a happy, tail-wagging mother!

In a final cute act, Cora even walks over to the shelter owner as if to say, “thank you for bringing me my babies.”
