We may never know what motivates some people to do the cruel things to animals that we see. The only hope we have is that there are more good people who are doing the work to help them! In stories like this, we see how a good person can save a life where a cruel person intended suffering.
A strange sight was seen in Lagoa da Prata, Brazil.
Josiane Almeida, an animal rescuer, got a call that someone had found a dog in the middle of a dirt road. It was a strange situation, and they needed help or the dog wasn’t going to make it. With the dire information known, Josiane and her husband rushed to the site.
The couple wasn’t prepared for what they found waiting for them.
In the road was a burlap sack with the head of a dog sticking out of it. Someone had tied up the dog in a sack and tossed it in the middle of the road. Even worse, the sack was full of squirming puppies. They were completely trapped.
Josiane had never seen anything like this.
The scene was terrible and Josiane didn’t know what it would look like when she opened the sack.
“Some of the worst scenes of mistreatment I’ve ever witnessed,” Almeida wrote in a post online. “A sick mother with puppies tied in a sack and thrown in the middle of nowhere. They’ve been there for quite some time.”
As she got closer, the mama dog got nervous.
When you trap an animal like this, it inevitably puts them on edge. Even worse, they were obviously abused and didn’t have much trust in humans. Slowly but surely, Josiane gained the trust of the mama and crept closer. When the mama dog realized she wasn’t in danger, she let her guard down.
Once she gained the trust of the animals, it was time to get them to safety.
There was one puppy outside the sack and three others inside. With her initial survey, she saw that they were all weak and hungry, with the mama dog suffering from a health problem that she couldn’t quite place. At least they were now with someone who could help.
Bringing the dogs back to her house, they could finally rest for the first time.
After some food and water, they fell fast asleep. For the very first time, they could rest and recoup. The next thing to do was get them checked out by a professional. A short trip to the vet later and it was clear what was wrong.
The puppies were happy and healthy, but something was wrong with the mom.
Thankfully, the puppies were fine. The mom, however, had a problem. There was a malignant growth that was found and needed immediate treatment. Josiane reached out to people around the world and asked if they could help with the chemotherapy that she needed.
After the post on social media, people started giving money for the treatment!
Since then, mama dog has gone through her first round of chemo, and everything appears to be ok. With happy puppies and a mom on the mend, it looks like Josiane was a savior for this incredible little family.
Josiane is still looking after them and is thankful for her new friends!
It takes a special kind of person to do what Josiane did! She concluded with:
“Before, this family was smothered in a sack tossed out to die, but as God is good, we managed to get them out of suffering! They live well with me today!” Almeida wrote. “Thank you God for giving me this opportunity.”
