Being lost is a scary thing! As a kid, we all have a memory of losing our parents (or them losing us!) that we will never forget. Unfortunately, this happens quite a bit with dogs across the world. Dogs will be following a smell or a distraction, and before they realize it, they’re five miles from home and have no way to get back.
One lost puppy used his smarts to get home again.
A four-month-old puppy named Khiew Ngern went missing in Thailand. At four months old, he was little and was still learning to stay inside fences and gates. When he went missing from his home on a Tuesday afternoon, his owners were distraught. Losing a puppy is scary, especially when you live in a city and you don’t know where they could have gone.
After a few hours, though, Khiew was found near a vet clinic.
The story doesn’t end there. In an interesting turn of events, it was discovered that this wasn’t Khiew’s first time to this particular clinic.
The little puppy was found at the Phuttaraska Animal Clinic.
The footage shows the little dog hanging outside the glass around the clinic. Initially, the puppy wasn’t noticed and people just kept on going about their business. Soon, realizing that nobody was paying attention, the little dog started pawing and barking at the door. He was trying to get the attention of the people inside!
When they realized the dog was out there, they brought him inside.
The vet on duty, Saengduen Chotepanus, brought the dog inside and had his records checked. Checking the files, she realized that this dog was one of the pets that she treats! She was able to call its owner once she pulled out their phone number.
The dog had done what humans do!
When we get lost, we normally do two things. The first thing that we would do is look for any landmarks that seem familiar to us. Once we identify that, we look for someone with some authority to help us get back home. For us, that is normally a police officer or something. This dog had done both of those things!
When Khiew got lost, he did both of those things!
When he realized that he couldn’t get home, he went to the place that seemed familiar to him. It just happened to be the vet clinic that he normally went to! Once he got to the place that seemed familiar, he then looked for help from someone that he knew. The vet was able to recognize and help him.
Thankfully, Khiew was returned to his home.
The vet clinic shared a sweet video of the pup knocking on their door on Facebook, and commenters loved it!
“My dog also remembers the clinic every well,” a commenter named Oop Aj wrote. “It’s poised to flee whenever I approach the place.”
Getting a lost dog back home is a wonderful thing. With the help of the vets and the quick thinking of a little puppy, the family was able to get their little guy back home and safe.
