One day Micha Porat was driving back home and suddenly spotted a quick flash on the road. He originally thought that it’d be a stray cat or even something smaller such as rat and decided to follow the animal and check it out. He discovered a terrified and small chihuahua who was wandering the streets.
“As I walked closer, the chihuahua ran away scared,” Porat recalls. “There were cars coming back and forth as she was in middle of the street. I stopped cars in the middle of the road that could have hit her and told them to stop and watch for the chihuahua.”
The little pup was hard to catch, but Micha was worried that she would end up underneath a car and decided to stay and try and catch her. Thanks to the help of some people passing by, he managed to take the chihuahua home with him in an effort to find her owner.
Micha has a dog of his own, Gomi. He also set up an account for Gomi on Instagram, where he can be definitely be described as ‘Instagram famous’ with over 80,000 followers. The two-year-old French bulldog immediately welcomed the little chihuahua and the two quickly became friends, even though Gomi was much, much younger. They got along, played together and were even caught snuggling from time to time.
“Gomi was always trying to play with her but I kept telling him to relax because she could have been through a lot,” Micha said. “They snuggled together at night and both slept with me in bed.”
He didn’t realize at first that the could use Gomi’s Instagram page to help find the owner who was probably worried about her, but realized this was probably the best way to find the owner.
“I posted photos and videos of them on Gomi’s Instagram announcing that we found a lost Chihuahua and if anyone had info to please contact us; we are trying to find her owner,” he said. “I was worried though that I wouldn’t find the owner, so I started reaching out to rescues to try and find her a good home.”
A while later, Micha received a number of responses. It turns out a couple of his followers actually recognized the dog. The chihuahua – Osita – has indeed been missing. Osita, who is 14 years old, ran away from home about ten blocks from where Micha found her. There were a lot of renovations going on in the home and her dad Gustavo Briand assumed that she bolted because of the stress of a new environment.
Gustavo didn’t have his hopes up high when Osita was lost, mainly because of her age. However, he didn’t give up, created flyers and shared a post on social media.
“Then one of my Facebook friends posted Micha’s post on Facebook, and I saw it and said, ‘That’s my dog!'”
“She was missing just a day and a half, but enough to drive me crazy,” Gustavo said. “She’s my baby.”
