When we think of our cuddle-buddy dogs, we imagine a fluffy-headed goofball that likes to eat sprinkler water and is scared of lawnmowers. Dogs truly are some of the best animals on this earth, but looking at them now can easily cause us to forget where they came from – wolves.
Watching a sleek wolf hunt prey in a pack on a nature documentary has to be one of the coolest things ever.
Looking at the difference between your wheezing Pug and an Alaskan wolf is quite distinct. Still, despite those differences, there are still some remarkable similarities between our housepets and the kings of the north.
The split between wolves and dogs happened around 30,000 years ago.
The genetic divergence between the dog’s ancestor and modern wolves occurred between 20,000 and 40,000 years ago, just before or during the Last Glacial Maximum (20,000–27,000 years ago). – Wikipedia
Despite there being thousands of years of difference between the two species, it’s easy to see that dogs came from wolves in videos like this.
A few days ago, a video was uploaded that shows the fierceness AND puppylike nature of one of the wild’s most dangerous pack hunters. Little Boa is a girl who lives with wolves. Incredibly, she treats them just like dogs!
Samje Joe is the owner of a pack of wolves and his daughter has taken to playing with them since she was three!
Boa grew up with the wolves since they were little cubs, and now that they’re full-grown, the relationship is remarkable to see. She chases them around in play, rides on their backs, and more as they run around the enclosure! These aren’t some hybrid “wolf dog”, either – these are 100% wolf!
You can see just how brave she is in how she interacts with them!
Imagine walking up to a wolf and straight-up SMACKING it on the nose! For most people, that would result in some serious medical bills and potentially even worse. When Boa does it, the wolves recoil like a puppy who knows what it did was wrong!
She calls them her brothers and loves to snuggle and kiss them.
Like a real dog, Boa will hug and kiss the wolves without any fear in her at all. Even when it’s feed time and she will help toss out the meat to them. In the compound, there are three wolf-dog mixes and three pure-bred wolves. You can see the difference in the dog mixes when they run around, looking to play!
For Boa, it doesn’t matter, she treats them all the same.
Watching her play with these massive animals who can take out a moose is truly stunning. It just goes to show that when humans decided to take in these amazing creatures thousands of years ago, they knew what they were doing! They just needed to make sure they had the courage of a little girl who could tame wolves.
You need to see this video of Boa playing and hand-feeding the wolves (p.s. make sure you turn on the captions).
