Imagine a little bonobo, just like a cute, furry baby monkey, living happily with its family in the wild.

Unfortunately, that was not what he experienced.

It’s believed that the bonobo’s family was taken away from him, possibly because of the bushmeat trade. What’s even worse is that this precious little bonobo was then stolen from the wild and taken away to be sold as a pet.

He was surely scared and lonely at that time.

But thankfully, he was rescued by the right people.

The kindness of these folks brought hope and joy back into the ape’s life. When they found him, he was physically well, but he seemed really thirsty and stressed.

He was then brought to Lola ya Bonobo Sanctuary.

This is where he was given the chance to live a better life, which is something that he deserves.

Thankfully, it also let him get his spirit back.

On the other hand, they also encountered some problems with the bonobo.

At the sanctuary, they made sure to take care of his emotional well-being too.

They noticed that he didn’t want to eat, but he was really into drinking. They didn’t give up on him and saw this as a positive sign.

Likewise, they made sure to help him overcome stress and trauma.

And that is by giving him a substitute mom.

This special person became like a mother to the bonobo, providing love, care, and comfort.

This little bonobo, who had been through so much, finally found a new family. They even gave him a new name, Balangala, to celebrate his fresh start.

When Balangala was handed over to his “new” mom, you could see the happiness and comfort in his eyes.

He loved hugging her tightly, just like he would with his real mother.

The sanctuary made sure that Balangala received the proper medical attention he needed and gave him plenty of time to rest and recover.

But that’s not all! Balangala also got the chance to meet and spend time with other apes at the sanctuary.

The very first time when Balangala laughed.

It was when he was playing with other bonobos – his new family. It was a sign that he was feeling happy, safe, and loved in his new home.

Let’s hope that many other animals who are currently not in safe and good condition, just like Balangala was, will be rescued very soon.
