The longer you wait for something, the happier you are when it finally happens! It’s like Christmas presents as a kid. That final 2-3 day stretch feels like an eternity, but when you finally rip the wrapping paper off, you can’t help but know it was worth the wait.
For one little dog, waiting was about the only thing he did anymore.
Patience is important, and Capone was living that lesson out. Capone is a 7-year-old Staffordshire terrier mix and has been living at a shelter in Ionia County Animal Shelter in Michigan for a long time.
Capone has been hoping that someone would come in and fall in love with him.
The poor pup had been waiting for someone to come along and be the perfect forever home for him. Sadly, nothing has seemed to work out. The now-senior dog has slowly watched all of his friends get adopted, leaving him alone.
At a certain point, all the kennels were empty except for the one he was in!
People came in every day and fell in love with Capone’s friends in the shelter, but never him. Soon, the last family came and he was the only dog left in the entire shelter. He was alone.
“For quite some time Capone was the only dog we had in the shelter,” Carly Quinn, director of the Ionia County Animal Shelter, told The Dodo. “All the kennels were empty, except for sweet, quiet, kind Capone.”
Capone got adopted once in 2017 but ran into an issue.
When one family took Capone home, they brought another friend’s dog over for a playdate almost immediately. Capone and the other dog ended up having a tussle, and the family decided to bring him back to the shelter. Once he was back at the shelter, he stopped eating and went into a doggy depression.
“He lost quite a bit of weight as he just did not have the appetite he did in his home,” Quinn noted. “It was very hard to get him to eat. We had to coax him daily with treats and assorted wet foods.”
