When an anonymous police officer in Lima, Peru saw a kitten sitting in the middle of the highway, he immediately took action, and he quickly became a local hero.
The kitten was first spotted by Lorena Castro, a commuter on her way to Lima’s city center. When she saw the frightened kitten, she stopped her car. She was about to get out and grab the cat, which would have been dangerous on the busy highway. A police officer driving by on his motorcycle saw what was happening and told Lorena to stay in her car. Then, he hopped off his bike and went to save the cat. Lorena took out her camera and filmed the dramatic rescue.
The officer blew his whistle and ran into the highway, holding up his hand to stop a bus that was just about to hit the kitten. Traffic stopped, and the officer was able to grab the kitten. He continued blowing his whistle as he gently cradled the cat. He brought the kitten over to Lorena, who took the cat into her car. Lorena tried to give the police officer money to thank him, but he refused and continued on with his duties.
Lorena immediately fell in love with the kitten, and she adopted her and named her Polly Tana after Lima’s Metropolitano bus line. Polly Tana now happily lives with Lorena, her two dogs, and her other cat.
