For most, spiders are a creepy-crawly that they don’t want anything to do with. While we don’t normally want them in our home, spiders play an important role in making sure that other bugs don’t take over with their numbers! We should be careful before we hate on spiders just because they scare us.
While it’s one thing to live and let spiders be, one man took things to a whole new level!
In one video, a man finds a spider in his home. Most of our responses? SQUISH! Not this man, however. He does the right thing and takes the high road, especially when he realizes that the spider needs some serious help.
Joseph Pieczynski was in his home one day when a huge spider ran out onto the floor near him.
The terrifying scene (at least to most people) would have ended right there with the swift work of a foot, but Joseph wasn’t so quick to end a life. Getting down a bit closer to the spider, he realized something was wrong.
The spider in question was a wolf spider, a common species that can accidentally end up in homes.
Wolf spiders are pretty amazing creatures when you learn a bit about them! Their name comes from the way they hunt. Using their camouflage and incredible eyesight, they stalk down their prey and take it down with a quick flurry of movement. They are solo hunters who are quite good at what they do!
A Wolf spider is a member of the group of spiders whose scientific name is the Lycosidae. Lycos means “wolf” in Greek. These spiders get their name from the way they hunt, which the people who named them thought was like the way wolves hunt. – Wikipedia
Joseph noticed, however, that the spider had stuff all over its legs.
The little spidey had gotten dust all over its legs and wasn’t able to hunt and could barely move. Getting closer with an x-acto knife, Joseph made his decision: he wasn’t going to kill the spider, he was going to help it!
Incredibly, the spider seemed to know his intentions and even lifted its legs so he could see better!
We would never claim that the spider was “asking” for help, but not all coincidences are coincidences, right? Slowly but surely, Joseph freed each of the legs of the spider and cut away the dust. The spider just sat like a good patient and let him help!
After a few painstaking moments, the spider was finally free!
While Joseph didn’t give him a name, we want to know what YOU think he should be called (if it’s even a he)! After all the work was done clearing off his feet, he was released back outside and was tasked with keeping Joseph’s home free of bugs for as long as he could. It seems like a fair arrangement, right?
