Animals can end up in the most unlikely of places, but I doubt you’d ever seen an animal as misplaced as this one here. This is no alligator in the sewer, nor a bear in the convenience store.
This kayaker was out in the ocean and saw a strange, moving object in the distance.
He mistook it for a piece of wood at first, but the movements weren’t very wooden. Eventually, he slowly realized it was an animal.
You can hear him exclaim, “What the hell is that thing? It looks like a dog.”
It was not a log, and it wasn’t a dog either. It was, of all things, a raccoon!
But what was a raccoon doing all the way out here?
Raccoons will go to the craziest places in search of things to scavenge. Still, the ocean is a pretty ridiculous place to look. I guess maybe people have been throwing their trash in the sea again?
This kayaker may have only seen it for a few minutes, but there’s really no telling how long it was.
The raccoon could have been paddling for hours by the time he saw it.
He brought the raccoon on board with him, and it immediately rested and fell asleep. Looks like it really may have been a few hours for the poor furball.
The raccoon was winded. It was content to just sleep in the kayaker’s toolbox.
When the man paddled to a small island nearby, the raccoon was still passed out and exhausted.
This all took place in Big Pine Key, Florida. It’s not far-fetched that this raccoon came from the urban areas and ended up here somehow.
Well, he lost a lot of energy from all that paddling. Besides a nap, he probably needs something to eat too.
While he was still passed out, the man did a bit of fishing and caught him some lunch. A nice, juicy fish awaited the raccoon when he woke up.
I can imagine the raccoon will appreciate it.
After all, we all know how nice a good meal is when you’re exhausted and just finished napping.
As he thought of heading back to the mainland, he made sure to paddle and not use the motor on his boat. Didn’t want to wake the sleepyhead in his toolbox.
When they arrived on shore, the raccoon was still fast asleep.
The kayaker noticed some movement, but he was far from awake. 5 more minutes, I guess?
At least they were on the mainland now and he could let the little critter go.
The raccoon really warmed up to him, and you can tell. It almost looks like it didn’t want to leave him. Well, I’m afraid he can’t take you home, little buddy!
“Big Pine Key is a wild deer sanctuary with not a lot of people and cars so I think he will be happy there.” said the kayaker
