A kangaroo named Abi has a lot of love to give. This sweet kangaroo absolutely loves hugging her favorite humans!
When Abi was just five months old, she lost her mom in the wild. Thankfully, a ranger named Chris “Brolga” Barnes rescued her.
Brolga brought Abi to his kangaroo sanctuary in Alice Springs, Australia, and she has now happily lived there for ten years. Brolga built the 188-acre sanctuary as a place to raise kangaroos who couldn’t be released back into the wild. This could be because the kangaroos were injured, or because they had been raised in captivity and were too tame to make it in the wild. Brolga provides these kangaroos with plenty of space to hop around.
Brolga and his Kangaroo Sanctuary have shot to fame in recent years. The sanctuary was featured on a BBC2 series, “Kangaroo Dundee.” The sanctuary has also gained legions of followers on social media—they have over 600,000 followers on Instagram and more than 250,000 people like their Facebook page.
Even though Brolga enjoys sharing photos and videos of his favorite kangaroos, the most important thing to Brolga is that his kangaroos are happy. On his website, Brolga writers that the mission of the Kangaroo Sanctuary is that their animals come first. The kangaroos at the Kangaroo Sanctuary are always provided with great care.
The kangaroos at the Kangaroo Sanctuary are very happy, and they enjoy spending time with the staff members and Brolga. But the most affectionate kangaroo of all is Abi. She begins each day by hugging the staff members who provide her care. Brolga says that unlike other kangaroos, she isn’t looking for food—she simply loves getting attention!
In a video for Dodo Impact, Brolga described Abi’s morning routine:
“First thing in the morning she comes up and wraps her arms around you and says, ‘cuddle me.’ She just loves it, loves the attention.”
Abi loves spending time with the sanctuary workers, and she always makes sure to thank them for everything they do for her with a hug. If you’d like to learn more about Abi and her famous hugs, check out the video below!
