Swedish company Ingvar Kamprad Elmtaryd and Agunnaryd, which you probably know of as IKEA, is known as the go-to spot to grab an inexpensive piece of modern-looking furniture for your home.
According to Wikipedia, IKEA has been the world’s largest furniture retailer since 2008.
The company was founded by 17-year-old Ingvar Kamprad who was named one of the ten richest people in the world in 2015. The firm is known for cost control, operational details, continuous product development and other corporate attributes that have made the company a longstanding success.
These attributes have taken IKEA in a new direction as a retailer of pet furniture.
Their new pet furniture and accessory collection LURVIG, which is the Swedish word for “shaggy,” was created in collaboration with veterinarians to provide the utmost comfort for our furry friends.
“Have you ever felt like your cat or dog wasn’t just a pet, but a member of the family?” a company press release reads. “It’s exactly that focus that led IKEA to make the comprehensive LURVIG pet product range. Created by pet-loving designers with support from trained veterinarians, the range covers all the bases of our shared life with pets indoors and out, so you and your pet can enjoy your home together.”
Though IKEA operates around 400 stores in 49 countries the LURVIG line is only being rolled out in its stores in the U.S., Canada, France, and Japan. Their other stores should start selling the pet products in March of next year.
The LURVIG line offers dog and cat beds, couch covers, cat tunnels, and scratching posts that are modern looking and stylish enough to blend in with the rest your home decor.
“Sharing our lives with dogs also means to have all the things they need for their favorite activities, like sleeping, eating, playing or going out for a walk,” IKEA’s website reads. ” That’s why we have created a series of products that are just right for them. There are extendable leashes, soft blankets and cushions, slow-feed food bowls and much more.”
IKEA is also selling smaller items like plastic bowls, leashes, bag dispensers, brushes, and pet toys.
LURVIG is also super affordable. Their slow feed bowl is $4.99 and their cat/sofa bed is $49.99.
“Whether you need a comfy cat bed, a fun toy or just a new scoop for the litter tray, with the LURVIG product range we have you covered,” IKEA writes. “There are all the basic products you need to take care of your cat, and some – like the KALLAX insert and the cat house disguised as a cabinet – are also designed to become part of your home interior.”
