Some animals that are rescued still need time to recover mentally. The mental toll that their lives out on the streets can often be too much to handle without lasting damage to their personality. Still, with some hard work and time, so many of these dogs can heal and learn to love again.

Harriet was found on the streets of Harbin, China, and would hide in the corner near stairs, totally frozen with fear. She was matted, filthy, and covered with grime from the street. When she was found by the Harbin SHS, they knew that she needed help.

They knew she needed medical attention when they arrived and she wasn’t responsive to their calls or treats. They scooped her up and took her back to the shelter. As soon as she was in the car, she started to relax a bit. They originally thought she was a mini-husky from how small she was, but she had just been malnourished for so long that her growth had been stunted.

She was bone-thin and the vets guessed she was about eight months old.

Despite the rough start to life, she began to acclimate to her new environment. The doctors estimated that it would take around two months for the pup to fully recover and be stable enough to go to a loving forever home.

Rosee Vallee saw a picture of Harriet online and knew she wanted to add her to her family.
