When a shelter worker with the City of Wichita Falls Animal Services took part in a campaign to get a dog at the shelter adopted, no one foresaw the reaction to the post on Facebook.

Before it was done, the worker had gotten far more attention than the dog he was trying to get adopted.

A Facebook post goes viral

Zackry Majewski started with us in October of 2020. He has a great compassion for the animals in our care. He is…

In the post, shelter worker Zackry Majewski is pictured beside a Siberian husky named Sky. Both have beautiful blue eyes, thick hair, and a muscular build, but it seems Majewski got the most attention.

Poor Majewski had no idea about the stir he would cause,

Commenters on the post were really interested in Majewski’s personal life, with several asking “Is Zac looking for a forever home too?”

And while many of the comments were said in jest, it showed how fascinated people were with the good-looking shelter worker.

The now-viral post was a result of an attempt by the shelter to highlight their workers for animal control officer appreciation week.

Well, it seems that Majewski got more than his share of appreciation by people online.

“We wanted to highlight them and also highlight a dog that we had available for adoption,” Nicki Bacon, administrator at the organization, told The Dodo.

As for Majewski, it was his turn to be highlighted and so both he and his coworkers were caught by surprise by the response.

“Honestly, we did not expect it,” Bacon said. “When I first saw the post in the morning, it had gotten around 500 comments, and I brought him into the office and said, ‘I just wanted to let you know this is blowing up a little bit.’ And the next thing I know, it’s going into the thousands.”

Majewski started work at the shelter serving in a variety of roles, including as an animal control officer and a kennel technician. He has always had a love for animals and hopes to someday become a Texas game warden.

As for Sky, she was adopted within the week, and, according to Bacon, the phones haven’t stopped ringing off the hook since.

Shelters across the country often struggle to find homes for the pets who come through their doors.

It is through ad campaigns like Majewski and his coworkers take part in that play a part in ensuring that the animals they take care of find a loving home.

Needless to say, some work faster than others.

There are many reasons to adopt a pet from a shelter, as opposed to buying one from a breeder or pet store.

Most notable is the fact that for every shelter animal adopted, space is opened up for the care of additional animals, who themselves can then be adopted.

Majewski hopes that the excitement he helped create can bring more attention to the shelter and the dogs in need of homes there.
