This is a story that we wish we could see and hear more of these days. There’s nothing better than seeing a story of happiness, hope, and faith in humanity. It’s enough to bring a tear to your eye.
A homeless man in England was recently overwhelmed with emotion and gratitude – thanks to the kindness of complete strangers.
Lee, a 24-year-old man who lives on the streets of Leeks, England, thought he had lost his entire world. For one long week, he was trying to grapple with the fact that he’d lost his best friend – his dog, Crystal. She was literally all he had.
On January 15th, 2019, a fight had broken out underneath the bridge where he and his 2-year-old dog had been sleeping. In the midst of all the chaos and commotion, Crystal became scared and bolted – running away into the night.
Lee called and looked for Crystal but he was devastated when she was nowhere to be found.
After hours of searching, he realized he was going to need help. Thankfully, a local organization called Helping Hands heard about Lee’s story and decided to step in to assist in the search. It wasn’t long before they had hundreds of people on the lookout for Crystal.
All over the country, people were putting up posters of Crystal and wishing for her safe return. It was Lee’s worst fear that his sweet and friendly dog may have been stolen. The ‘not knowing’ was ripping Lee’s heart apart. He worried he’d never see her again.
Then, after a long and agonizing week, Lee’s prays were answered and a miracle happened.
Calls were received every now and again about a sighting of Crystal, but it wasn’t until a farmer had spotted her, that she was able to be caught.
“The whole event was a whole week of panic and broken emotions, Lee and I spent time together whilst I consoled him and reassured him,” Toni Mella Sweeney, from Helping Hands, told The Sun. “The morning I received the call I immediately went to find Lee.”
It took a while for Sweeney to comb the streets to locate Lee so she could tell him about the good news, but she finally found him. When she brought him back to be reunited with Crystal – it was a moment that she’ll never forget.
Lee’s reunion with Crystal in the video below was “mind-blowing” said Sweeney. When you watch it – you’ll absolutely understand.
“I covered half of Leeds and eventually found him by the coin exchange. We went for food to calm down and then I took him to be reunited with his baby,” Sweeney said. “As you can see from the video, it was altogether mind-blowing.”
The moment that Lee was able to lay eyes on his dog, it’s hard not to be overcome with emotion. Lee begins to cry, while Crystal’s tail is wagging a million miles an hour. His beloved dog licks his tears away from his face – both of them are completely overwhelmed with happiness.
“I missed you so much,” Lee can be heard saying in the video. His voice is full of relief and joy.
Lee didn’t just get his best friend back that day – he had an entire community rally behind him and help him. Something we could certainly use more of this day in age.
Now that Lee had his furry companion back by his side, he was happy again. All he wanted was his dog back, but the people who helped find her wanted to help even more.
Helping Hands and the community provided Lee with supplies that will help keep both him and Crystal safe while on the streets. They even made sure to give him a new collar for Crystal so that she would always be kept close from now on.
