The number of homeless and abandoned dogs on the streets is not going down as more and more irresponsible owners dump their pets on the roadside. Government shelters can’t have all the dogs in one place, and therefore, a lot of non-profit rescue groups have risen up to lend their hand into addressing this long-running problem.
Hope for Paws is one of the biggest non-profit organizations there is that plays a huge role in giving dogs a new home.
Hope for Paws, a non-profit animal rescue group in California, faces the challenge of searching for dogs that they think are in desperate need of help. Every member is trained to use the most harmless methods to rescue strays. They are also not the type of organizations that euthanize these poor dogs; instead, they work hard to provide them a new home and a loving owner.
One day, they got a call from a concerned citizen telling them about a stray dog.
Toi Crawford was concerned about a dog living behind an enclosed area near the freeway and she decided to call Hope for Paws. It seems that Crawford was already taking care of the dog by giving it food for a week before she called the rescue organization.
A team responded to her call and immediately went to the area where the dog was living. As they spotted the poor dog lying behind the fences, they first prepared a plan to catch her.
They used a dog catchpole to catch the scared, nimble dog.
Eldad Hagar, the founder of Hope for Paws, and his rescue partner for the day, Loreta Frankonyte, entered the fence along with Crawford. They first secured the perimeter by wrapping the fence with a net to cut off potential escape routes. Frankonyte and Crawford were both holding ring nets while Hagar opted for a catchpole.
As they slowly approached the Chihuahua, it became cautious of them. The dog immediately got the hint that the people were trying to catch her. The scared dog tried to evade their approach, but fortunately, in one swoop, Hagar was able to catch its leg with his catchpole.
The dog desperately struggled to break away from the wire but Loreta hurled her net before the dog could escape.
The Chihuahua’s unbelievable transformation makes you want to have her yourself.
The team tried to soothe the defeated Chihuahua, and Crawford was happy to finally pet the dog that she fed for a week. They named the dog Barbie. They gently brought Barbie back to their organization’s quarters, bathed her, and fed her.
Thankfully, HFP was able to find the dog a new home.
When Hagar visited the Chihuahua in her home after some time, they could not believe how much she had changed and grown.
The scared and untrusting Chihuahua that they found on the freeway was now an active pooch that was ready to greet you with its boundless energy as soon as you get home. Barbie is now part of a loving family with her new owner along with his other small dogs that she can endlessly play with.
