One of the biggest questions we’re still yet to answer is whether or not animals feel emotions.

Do they feel heartbreak, joy, love, or longing?

While we often reserve these emotions to be possessed only by species as intelligent as us, there are moments and encounters where we’re pretty sure animals feel the same way that we do.

Philip was trekking through an undisclosed location when he heard something he hadn’t heard before.

When he investigated the source of the sound, he found a cow crying on top of the ridge just across the quarry.

Its cries were loud, mournful, and deep – like the cow was wailing and grieving.

It’s strange to hear an animal sound like this cow so Philip decided to investigate.

After a few more observations, he was able to figure out what was wrong.

Down the ridge from where the mother was crying, he saw a figure of a younger cow.

The calf was looking up to the ridge and wailed back.

With the steepness of the route, the calf and the mother felt helpless.

They wanted to be together so much but the terrain won’t permit them.

It was a different kind of pain as they could both see each other.

They were so close but so far away at the same time.

That’s when Philip decided to step in.

As the whole situation drew him in, he knew that he couldn’t leave these two cows to their cruel fate.

He decided to do what needed to be done – reunite the two of them.

He quickly studied the routes that he could see and eventually came up with a plan on how he would get to either of the animals.

At first, he was torn between the two, but realizing that it was easier to lead the mama cow down the ridge, he chose that option.

He walked to the mother cow.

When he walked closer, the mother cow was still crying to her child.

If he planned on reuniting these two, he had to lead the mother cow to the path that led down the ridge.

There was one problem, however.

Philip is not a farmer nor worked any job closely related to dairy.

He just picked up a stick, herded the cow, and used his instincts to guide him.

After a short while, the cow began trusting Philip.

Maybe, as she was walking down the path, she realized that she was just being led to her son.

After about 45 minutes, the younger calf was met with a familiar sight.

“Oh, the cries from Momma for her baby were heart-wrenching!” a commenter said, “Thankfully, Philip was out there and heard her cries! His plan worked perfectly and to see that baby run to mom was so sweet!”

“I am confident that the cow expressed her gratitude in her unique manner, and I too would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to you,” said another commenter, pointing out how the mother looked over and toward Philip.

So can animals feel?

The question still leads to more questions but as for Philip’s encounter, we believe we have the same answer especially when an animal stops to thank you.
