This story is all about teaching an old dog new tricks, and it’s one you’ll obviously find adorable.
If you’ve read viral stories about dogs by now, then you know this will be a cute one.
Our story revolves around Louie, an old dog with arthritis in Alexandra.
Marolyn Diver-Dudfield from New Zealand was visiting her parents’ home in the small town of Alexandra when she saw their dog’s troubled walking on the driveway.
Louie was walking with a limp and appeared to have gotten himself into something recently.
Marolyn and her parents came rushing out to see what was troubling the old dog.
Was his arthritis acting up? Maybe he got into a nasty altercation with a younger, more energetic dog and got roughened up a bit?
He was in one piece, at least.
And there was a strange piece of cardboard attached to his collar with a note.
So Louie definitely met a human or two. I don’t know many dogs that can write.
The note read:
“Louie’s the hero of the day. He lead me to Maddy [the neighbours dog] in distress, stuck under a branch pile. Cheers – Rob.”
As it turns out, Louie had saved Maddy. In case you don’t know, Maddy is his girlfriend of sorts.
But on one Saturday, the two dogs didn’t return to their homes at the expected time.
That’s when the events described on the cardboard note happened.
The neighbor, and Maddy’s owner, Robert Kvick, began to worry about them.
“After lunch, I had not seen her. I had to go into Alexandra for an appointment. She didn’t come when I called. When I got back about 5.30pm there was still no sign of her.”
He began to search around and ran into Louie, who was panting and puffing like crazy.
Rob went to the back of his property to move his irrigation system and saw Louie there.
The old dog was huffing and panting like he badly needed to show something to Robert.
So he led Robert around until they came to the other side of the property.
Robert wondered what this was all about until he heard a whimper underneath a brush pile.
Maddy was trapped underneath the brush pile.
She had crawled into a hole and couldn’t get out.
And thanks to Louie, someone was able to find her and get her out. Now that’s love right there!
The little rescue left Louie winded. At 12 years old, he’s very elderly for a dog and can’t afford to keep rescuing people.
But seeing how much he loves Maddy, I don’t think that will stop him.
The little adventure made for a great news story, and gave Louie quite the reputation as an older gentleman.
