Dolphins are brilliant animals, but when they get stuck in shallow water, they become powerless and are unable to help themselves.
A dolphin was stranded in a shallow river in Mexico.
A group of men saw the distressed dolphin and jumped into the river to help the troubled animal.
At the beginning of the video, you can see a man swimming after the animal in an attempt to catch it and help it out.
The dolphin resists and swims away, trying to escape from the man. Two other men quickly jump in to help him catch the dolphin.
As the struggle continues, other onlookers jump join them in the river to help catch the dolphin.
The men finally take hold of the dolphin on one side of the riverbank while the other men look on.
It takes almost a dozen men to put the dolphin on a makeshift stretcher. Finally, they successfully lift the dolphin out of the muddy water. The men are seen working together to place the gentle mammal into a truck to transport it back to the beach.
When they place the dolphin down on the truck, you can hear one of the men cheering. There’s a flurry of activity as the rescuers shout instructions to each other.
You can hear one voice telling them to pour water on the dolphin. Another rescuer asks for help with his foot, while another tells everyone to calm down.
“This was a more difficult rescue because it was a larger dolphin,” shares one of the men in Spanish.
“He thought we were chasing him. But he’s in a better place, and soon he’ll be back in the sea,” said the rescuer. He also said that the dolphin was male and initially seen with another dolphin.
“You’re going back to meet your friend, dude,” the man told the dolphin as they readied the animal for the trip back to the open sea.
Fortunately, the dolphin remains calm throughout his ordeal.
A typical dolphin weighs anywhere from from 330 pounds to 1,500 pounds. It’s no wonder that the men all looked visibly tired as they carried the dolphin off truck.
Even with their fatigue, you can still sense the positive energy and hopeful anticipation in the video.
Our favorite part is when a little boy, probably no more than ten years old, is seen as one of those helping carry the beached dolphin.
When the men successfully carry the dolphin to waist-deep water, the seawater starts to wash over the dolphin. This is when he starts moving.
The deeper they get into the water, the faster he starts to move. Before the men even have a chance to completely lower the stretcher, the dolphin wiggles out and swims away.
The dolphin quickly disappears into the waves to happy shouts of “Adios!”
His fin makes a split-second appearance before it disappears completely. All that’s left is the sun shining on the sea.
The video has been viewed over one million times since it was posted.
And no wonder, it’s one of those special videos that make us believe in people’s innate kindness. As one video commenter said, “The world needs more people like these kind men.”
We couldn’t agree more.
