Meet Elliot, a 4-year-old guinea pig who has just become the newest honorary member of his local police department.
Elliot’s owner works for the New Zealand Police Department as a member of the media team and decided it would be a great idea to have him as their new media spokesperson.
His primary role is posting on the department’s Facebook page and sharing insightful information about a variety of important issues like theft and driving tips.
“Remember people, the kids are going to be out and about walking and biking, and crossing roads,” one of Elliot’s posts said. “Like me, they are small and unpredictable, so you have to watch out!”
He was even awarded his very own uniform to wear when on the job, complete with a mini police hat and a harness similar to the K9’s work wear.
“Elliot is brave enough to be a media spokesperson about some of our important prevention messages; not only about road policing but also about thefts and keeping ourselves safe,” said a spokesperson for the New Zealand Police. “Police are always looking for new ways to communicate with the public and promote messaging as quickly and as efficiently as possible.”

But Elliot refuses to make his life all about his work. When he’s at home, he loves spending time with his family, getting cuddles and eating healthy fruit and vegetables.
He’s quite popular around the office and with just one look at his adorable face and we can certainly see why. He has an important job spreading his knowledge and information to the public and we wish him continued success in his endeavors!
