Dubai is a friendly dog… unless you mess with his family.

And his human Tracey McCoy was extremely grateful for that when an intruder entered her home only to have her 122-pound Great Dane mix attack and chase him off.

“Fortunately for us, Dubai took care of business,” McCoy told News 9.

McCoy was home with her son Nathaniel at the time the intruder, identified by news sources as 30-year-old Robert Ward, waltzed right into her Oklahoma City home in the middle of the day.

“It was in broad daylight,” said McCoy. “Just came in like he owned the place.”

McCoy said she heard the door open and thought it was her older son, but ended up finding a face she didn’t know at all. Nathaniel is blind so he didn’t know anything was wrong until he heard his mother let out a terrifying scream.

“The instant that I screamed, Dubai understood that that person was not welcome here,” McCoy said in an interview with KFOR.

What’s interesting about that is the fact that home security cameras caught Ward walking through a side door of the home and meeting and petting Dubai before he approached McCoy turned the corner and saw him.

“I looked up and came face-to-face with a stranger,” she said. “I screamed and the moment I screamed my dog responded.”

That’s when Dubai sprung into action biting Ward in his ass and tried to push him toward the door. Dubai also tried to go for the intruder’s face.

“It was pretty remarkable,” said McCoy. “Now we know what he’ll do in times of crisis.”

McCoy says that Dubai is not a vicious dog by any means but he did understand that this person was dangerous and unwelcome.

The intruder struggled to open the door and flee but eventually was able to get it open. McCoy ran to call 911 as the intruder fled.

She gave police a full description of the man and the incident.

Thankfully, police officers weren’t far from her home and were able to quickly catch Ward.

“They were able to find him because I was able to tell them what direction he went,” said McCoy.

Police said Ward wasn’t armed and that he was arrested and booked for first-degree burglary.

“Officers that were responding to the scene spotted the man in the area walking in the neighborhood, took him into custody,” said OKC Police Master Sergeant Gary Knight.

McCoy said she was extremely pleased that the intruder was caught, but is still shaken up.

“It changes everything. It changes how you feel, it changes your level of security it changes your level of confidence at that moment,” said McCoy.

McCoy’s story ended up going viral on the internet with many hailing her dog as a hero.

“Shows how dogs can go from friends to get the hell out of my house. This dog must’ve been taken back once his owner screamed at the man. Good for the dog for doing the right thing give him some head pats and a bone,” wrote one person on YouTube.
