Little gorilla ‘talks back’ to his mom and instantly regrets it
When a sibling argument breaks out on who can eat the most snow, things got a little heated. Thankfully, mama was there to show both kids who was really in charge!

As we grow older, we try and challenge various ideas and authorities in our lives – it’s part of growing up! When a little kid challenges their dad to a wrestling match, for example, that kid is just testing the boundaries! Funny enough, those behaviors exist in the wild, too!

If there is one person that you don’t want to test, however, it’s mama.

We all grow up with a healthy understanding that if you mess with mama, you might get hurt! There is an unspoken rule, too, that even if you grow stronger than your mom, she is still in charge! The fact that she literally birthed you is all the proof you need that she deserves your respect.

Gorillas act much like humans when it comes to certain aspects of their family relationships! Gorilla moms look out for their babies for the first four years of their life and after that time is up, the boys usually head out on their own to find a potential mate. Doesn’t sound too different from humans, does it?

While the baby gorillas live in Mama’s nest, however, she is in charge!

We can see this perfectly when Ozala, a mama gorilla, sees her little one get a little too bold. Ozala has two babies, Lope and Shufai. It had recently snowed and they were all sitting around eating the frozen ice, having a great time.

When one of the babies gets upset and doesn’t want to share the snow, he stands up and beats his chest!

The description of the video wasn’t translated all that well and it’s hard to tell which gorilla is which in the story, but from what we understand, Lope is the adolescent that gets a bit annoyed. When he gets annoyed, he stands up on his hind legs and decides to do a bit of chest-beating!

The new study suggests that chest-beating could be a useful way for males to convey their size, something Wright said could help them to both win mates and avoid potentially dangerous fights. – The Guardian

The larger a gorilla, the lower the sound when he beats his chest.

From such a little guy like Lope, however, the sound wasn’t very threatening! When his mom hears that he is sizing up his brother and potentially disrespecting her, she isn’t happy about it at all. Ozala decided to take matters into her own hands.

She does a simple charge at the unruly child and that was all it took.

Once Lope saw his mother charging, he literally fell off the platform in shock! All it took was a little reminder of who was still in charge to put little Lope back in his place. One day, as he gets older, his mom will have a little more deference for him. For the time being, however, she is totally in charge!
