It takes a special kind of person to rescue animals in need.
Alison Gray, of the Bali Rescue Dog Squad, knows how challenging rescue work can be. Thousands of dogs roam the streets of Bali, and many of them suffer debilitating injuries and conditions.
At the time of this video, Alison must have rescued over 500 dogs. Which has become her passion and calling. She feels a full heart every time she brings a dog to health and rehome them with loving families.
But Tucker was an especially difficult and heart-wrenching case.
When Alison found Tucker, he was trapped in a tiny cage. His condition in that tiny space made it all but impossible for him to walk. Tucker didn’t even have it in him to eat.
As you can guess, Alison was not going to give up on Tucker. She started a rehabilitation program that started off slow.
It all began with building trust and feeding Tucker good nutritious food.
Alison reflects on Tucker’s journey and mentions how good it was to see him eating. Tucker chowing down on his food meant that the dog had hope and energy in him.
She used that hope to slowly coax Tucker to move, inch by inch, to get treats and meals. It may not seem like a lot, until you see the results.
Over time, Tucker began to walk to his bowl.
The dog had a wagging tail and a big wide smile on his face. He wasn’t going to let one bad leg stop him.
Alison introduced Tucker to more challenging tasks.
Tucker grew stronger and more confident, so Alison took him out for pool training. This is a great idea for rehabilitation since swimming is low impact on pained joints and limbs and that’s exactly what Tucker needed.
It’s just so heartwarming to see how far he’s gone. From being bedridden and immobile to up and about, this was a dog on the move.
But for Alison, there was still one more goal she wanted Tucker to reach.
It was time to find Tucker a loving and caring home.
Healing injured animals and finding them new homes is the main goal for animal shelters and rehabilitation centers, like Bali Dog Rescue Squad. So when Tucker was finally able to move and play on his own, he was ready for adoption.
Alison put out the call, because she wanted to find the right loving family for the dog. He had so much personality, so why wouldn’t Alison want anything less?
After so much hard work and struggle though, would Tucker find the perfect home?
As it turns out…
Late in the video, we can see clips of Tucker with his new dog mom. Look how happy they are together. You can tell that Tucker would finally feel the love and support that he deserved.
It’s hard to imagine, but none of this would have been possible, without the kindness of one woman who moved from Australia to Bali.
