“It was very scary as she was so little, barely 6 pounds,” Dobby’s mom, Shani Coppa, told The Dodo. “The vet said she had a small chance to survive if she stayed in the hospital, and honestly, she advised we take her home and spend as much time with her as we could — that she actually had a better chance with love at home than in a kennel at the vet’s.”
When Dobby was adopted by her family three years ago, it was expected that her hardships were over now that she had a loving forever home. However, there was one more battle she would have to overcome.
Just days after settling into her new home, the poor little puppy got sick.
Her new family brought her to the veterinarian and were shocked to find out that their new puppy had parvo. It’s a highly contagious and aggressive virus that’s common in dogs from puppy mills.
Though Dobby was brand new to their family, her new family wasn’t about to abandon her.
Despite the fact that they weren’t sure if she would survive.
The vets said on a Thursday that if Dobby could make it to Monday, she would likely survive and pull through her illness.
But they had to make it through those five days. Dobby’s family spent day and night with her trying to make her comfortable and happy.

“My husband moved into the room with her to give her round-the-clock care,” Coppa said. “She got anything she wanted. Chicken broth, baby food, American cheese, Pedialyte.”
She even got a special toy to keep her company.
It was a stuffed pink bunny that Dobby absolutely fell in love with. She and that bunny became inseparable.

“She demanded it be in her special blanket, and when she could be induced to eat, it came to the bowl with her, it was adorable,” Coppa said.
Before they knew it Monday had arrived and Dobby made a full recovery.
Eventually, Dobby became less attached to her pink bunny. Afterall, she was in a house full of doggy siblings who had lots of toys. Bunny, however, always remained a special part of Dobby’s life.

“Pink Bunny was still around, not to be chewed on, and heaven forbid another dog attempt to love on her, but she wasn’t a constant companion,” Coppa said. “More like a ‘just in case’ stuffy.”
Dobby eventually returned the favor for all of Coppa’s loving care.
Coppa stayed home from work one day with a terrible migraine and Dobby could sense something was wrong with her mommy. So Dobby never left her side and made sure the family’s other dogs didn’t bother her.

She remembered the one thing that comforted her and made sure to bring her mom her pink bunny.
Apparently, the pink bunny has magical healing powers.
“After a particularly bad bout of migraine nausea, she brought Bunny up on the couch with me,” Coppa said. “It’s the bunny we bought her when she was sick, so clearly it has feel-better medicine in it.”
Now, this sweet little puppy always busts out her pink bunny when someone in her home isn’t feeling well.
But when everyone is feeling well, pink bunny is off limits and kept safe for when her magic is truly needed.
What a sweet and clever little pup!
